Single point ground terminal weld

Sonobond Ultrasonics is pleased to announce the introduction of an ultrasonic metal spot welder designed specifically for manufacturing single point ground terminals. Visitors to the Electrical Wire Processing Technology Expo in Milwaukee, May 18-19, are invited to see this unit by coming to Booth #1441.

Single Point Ground Terminals help eliminate the electrical noise caused by the growing number and complexity of automotive and other circuits. This "noise" results when multiple ground connections are made within a circuit, creating "ground loops." Sonobond’s new ultrasonic unit helps solve this problem by giving manufacturers a fast, effective way to ultrasonically weld multiple wires into a single terminal.

Fast, Two-Step Process

The Single Point Ground Welder SPG 2600 creates a successful weld with just one pulse. It then completes the process by automatically folding over the terminal arms to provide stress relief on the joint.

Although similar in appearance to Sonobond’s popular SonoWeld® 1600 Digital Metal Spot Welder, the new unit is designed specifically for gathering as many as 18 wires into a single terminal. Wire bundles of up to 20 square millimeters can be handled with complete confidence. Like all of Sonobond’s metal welders, the unit features heat-treated, tool steel Taper Lock Tips. These can last for up to 100,000 welds and are designed for fast, convenient removal and replacement. Sonobond equipment can be operated easily with minimal training.

Built-In Microprocessor

The power supply for Sonobond’s Single Point Ground Welder has a built-in microprocessor that can store up to 250 weld protocols. A digital display allows selection of welding modes by time or energy and provides automatic frequency control and overload protection. There is an RS232 port for transferring weld data to or from a computer. And automatic control monitoring detects when variables exceed preset power and time limits.

Welds Even Lightly Tinned or Oxidized Wires

Ultrasonic metal welding is a fast, cost-effective, environmentally-friendly process that eliminates the costs of consumables and post-assembly cleaning. That’s because it creates a solid-state metallurgical bond without heat, current, fluxes, or fillers.

Sonobond Ultrasonics’ metal spot welders have the important, added advantage of using the Wedge-Reed coupling system. This patented process combines high vibratory force with low amplitude coupling to create precise, dependable welds in one, fast step. Even lightly tinned or oxidized wires can be handled in this way.

Free Ultrasonic Welding Viability Test

There is a convenient, no-obligation way to be sure Sonobond technology is right for your needs. Simply take advantage of our Ultrasonic Welding Viability Test.
